Awesome Boondocks Preview/Jay Electronica Video

Huge fan of both of these. Jay Electronica is one of a handful of MCs that I think can return rap to the glorious creative apex of whenever. The point is he is dope as fuck. The Boondocks is one of the freshest cartoons out, cutting, original and well animated. This 3 plus minutes should make you feel great about life. If it doesnt you are probably a dick.

K-BETA – Inglorious Beta

New music from one of my favorite up and coming rappers!!!!

K-Beta – Inglorious Beta

Washington, D.C. buzzmaker K-Beta has hooked up with Inner Loop Records and DJBooth.net to bring listeners his debut full-length, Inglorious Beta.

In regard to the album’s title, K-Beta stated, “The word ‘inglorious’ refers to being in a state of utter shame and disgrace…I reflected on all of the trials and tribulations of my life, and searched for perspective through reading, meditating etc. It helped me understand that shame is [a] tool with which many build hiding places. Creating this album has helped me lift up the rug and expose all of the dirt underneath.”

Featuring “Burn Thru the Journal,” “Come Closer,” and 14 more new tracks from the rising star, the project finds K-Beta joined by a wide array of DMV-based collaborators, including Diamond District (Oddisee, XO and yU), Illa Ghee, Sketch, B. Sheba, Mina and Midian. Production comes courtesy of Team Demolition, Kev Brown, Kokayi, J-Scrilla, Overok, Souful!

Patton Oswald

Fat short guys fall into one of four catagories:

1. Lonely virgins
2. Bitter, angry, and driven successful businessmen types
3. Phish fans
4. On of the best Comedians of our time.

The artist in today’s blast fits in to catagory 4. Patton Oswald has quickly become one of my favorite comedians, he is the perfect mixture of rage, snark, pop culture references and nerd. His stand up is always funny as balls, insightful, and on point.

The Juggaknots

One of the things I am often guilty of is hyperbole, hell all of American seems to be guilty of it lately. Calling something the greatest, or the best, or the best greatest thing seems to be as second nature as farting in your sleep. I have probably called 15 rap records the greatest of all time in this music blast alone, now today’s record is not the best record. It is a very good record, I don’t even know if I would call it one of my favorites. The mixing and the sound quality suffer from many of the standard cliches that most mid 90’s underground rap suffered from. Lots of hiss, too lo-fi and not in a good way, average drums, etc. If you listened to rap back then you know what I’m talking about. All of that said, the rapper himself, Breezly Brewin, is perhaps the greatest story teller in the history of rap music. He is like the Cormac McCarthy of rap, he makes Slick Rick look like Dr. Seuss. His tales are dark, intricate, atmospheric, layered, and always with a twist. On top of that his rhyme schemes while telling the stories remain some of the most complex till this day. Whether its Loosifa, which is a story about an everyday street tough who turns his life around when his girlfriend gets pregnant, only to lose his mind while working at a hospital where he sees the tortured lives of crack babies, or the conversation between a racist father and his son who is dating a black woman, it is always poignant, touching and real. So when I say Breezly Brewin might just be the best rapper ever, it is not hyperbole, it is truth. I implore you to check this out, even if you hate rap music, give Loosifa, Clear Blue Skies, and I’m Gonna Kill You a chance, if only to see what rap once was and why a whole generation fell in love with the underground music that was coming out of New York City in the early and mid 90s.
